Classic Cream Cheese Frosting Recipe

This thick, white frosting is excellent on red velvet cupcakes, pumpkin bread, cinnamon buns, and even on my Amazing Apple Streusel Muffins.

  • 1 8-oz. package cream cheese (or low-fat cream cheese)
  • 2 tbsp. melted butter
  • 2 tbsp. milk
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 2-lb. package confectioner’s sugar

To make the frosting:

Mix cream cheese, melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract thoroughly with a hand or stand mixer.

Sift confectioner’s sugar; then begin to slowly add the sugar to the other ingredients while mixing. Continue adding sugar until the frosting is the thickness and consistency desired. If a thinner glaze is desired, add less confectioner’s sugar.

Refrigerate any leftover frosting for up to one week.
